Duryodhna and Others in Deep Shame and Stay Back in The Forest : Episode 58 (13-Apr-14)

Scene 1

After the exchange of garlands, Arjuna starts walking with Draupadi, when Karna intercepts them and wants to know if Arjuna is a kshatriya, Arjuna replies he is above the kshatriyas. In fact, kshatriyas come and learn archery and martial weapons from Brahmins like Drona and Parashurama. Having been born in a low caste, Karna does not have a right to question or criticize him. Karna flares up.

Karna

: Truly learned persons and warriors are beyond caste. How dare you compare yourself with them? You are speaking with so much courage, you cannot be a Bramin. Who are you?

Arjuna

: I am your sworn enemy.

Karna

: To call me your sworn enemy, you must be a systematically trained prince. Tell me the truth, who are you?

Arjuna

: How does it matter who I am? If you have any courage, fight with me and prove yourself to be a kshatriya!

Bheema tells Yudhishtra to take Nakula and Sahadeva with him and go home to avoid somebody identifying them, while he would remain and assist Arjuna if need be.

Karna

: I don't need to kill a Brahmin and prove myself to be a ksatriya. And I don't want to fight with a coward who can't reveal his identity!

One of the kings gets up and says he would not forgive somebody who can't reveal his identity like Karna does. Duryodhana challenges Arjuna saying he should defeat him first before taking away the cunning Draupadi. Other kings join the fray and it appears there would a scuffle. Krishan gets up and calms other kings saying why they want to fight when Karna himself doesn't want to fight. He tells Duryodhana he is speaking childishly. Arjuna has won the contest Drupada has set and Draupadi has even garlanded him. So Arjuna has claimed Draupadi in a true kshatriya tradition and is free to take her away. Draupadi has a right to express her will. Besides, even if the kings fight and claim her as their own, Draupadi is unlikely to like or approve of it. So why fight over an unwilling maiden?

He then tells Arjuna to take away Draupadi and assures them nobody would stop them.

Drishtadyumna stops Arjuna
Arjuna walks away with Draupadi, with Bheema accompanying him. Drishtadyumna runs behind them, asking Arjuna to stop, and asks where he is taking away Draupadi. He requests them to live in the palace itself along with other members of the family. Arjuna refuses, stating only his mother has the right to decide where and with whom he should live. Drishtadyumna then asks Arjuna's permission to have a private word with Draupadi.

Drishtadyumna asks Draupadi why she is behaving so crazily without realizing what she has done. Did she not take a vow that she would enter the fire if she couldn't marry Arjuna? Draupadi says everything happened in a trice even before she could realize what was happening. She had dreamt that she would marry a Brahmin and when this happened in reality, she presumed and her inner conscience was convinced that her objective had been fulfilled. She doesn't react when Drishtadyumna asks her to take a look at their distraught parents, and walks away holding Arjuna's hands.

Scene 2

Kunti is waiting for the Pandavas who have gone out for begging as usual. She is feeling restless with anxiety.

Bheema, Arjuna and Draupadi find Krishna on the way back. Draupadi tells Krishna that she had trusted him when he signalled her at the sawayamvaram mantapa. He has known her desire to marry only Arjuna, and now she is anxious and worried after a Brahmin has won her.

Krishna reveals she has indeed married Arjuna. Draupadi is overjoyed and wants to convey this news immediately to her agitated parents. Krishna tells Draupadi that Pandavas are living in cognito and Draupadi cannot go to the palace as other kings are still there. Then he takes leave of them saying he has other important tasks to complete. A spy from Hastinapura is watching them.

Scene 3

Duryodhan, Shakuni and Karna are returning back in a chariot. Duryodhana is thirsty and asks some girls going that way for water. As he returns to the chariot, he overhears them making fun of him for losing in the swayamwaram contest. Duryodhana is ashamed and furious. He refuses to go to Hastinapura and face the shame of meeting his parents and the courtiers. Bhishma had brought Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika for their grand parents, and he would look down on them for losing. Karna, Dushshasana and Shakuni also do not want to go to Hastinapur without Duryodhana, and they all stay back in the forest.

Scene 4

Yudhishtra, Nakula and Sahadeva are waiting for Arjuna, Bheema and Draupadi to return. Draupadi identifies the other Pandavas and they exchange pleasantries for a while before leaving for home. Drishtadyumna, who is watching them from a distance, is happy to know Draupadi has indeed chosen Arjuna.
