Vidura Destroys Vishnu Astra and Krishna Displays His Vishwaroopa : Episode 121
Recap of Previous Episode :
Krishna prepares for the peace negotiations. Draupadi’s wounds reopen, and she refuses forgiveness. Krishna arrives in Hastinapura and is respected by elders but insulted by Duryodhana, who secretly plots to humiliate Him. Krishna chooses to stay with Vidura, while Vidura’s declaration of loyalty to the Kauravas shocks Kunti.Vidura’s Vow and Kunti’s Shock
Kunti is stunned when Vidura declares that he would stand with the Kauravas if war breaks out. When she asks why, Vidura explains with quiet conviction that he once promised Pandu he would never abandon Dhritarashtra, no matter his faults, and would always fight for him. His loyalty to that vow binds him.
Krishna’s Final Plea for Peace
The next morning, Krishna stands before the royal court and clearly states His purpose — the return of the kingdom to the Pandavas. Duryodhana responds with scorn and refuses even the last concession Krishna offers: five villages. He declares proudly that he will not give land enough to drive even a needle.
Krishna asks the elders present to guide Duryodhana. Vidura speaks for peace, but Duryodhana explodes with rage and humiliates him cruelly, calling him the son of a dasi and accusing him of feeding Krishna while living off the king’s charity.
Vidura stands silent in anguish.
Krishna Turns Duryodhana’s Words Against Him
Krishna speaks sharply. He reminds Duryodhana that Vidura is a powerful warrior armed with the Vishnu Astra, capable of annihilating enemies. How could Duryodhana insult a man of such stature, especially by dishonoring his mother? Which self-respecting man would tolerate such an insult? Vidura rises at once. He thanks Krishna for awakening him at the right moment and releases himself from his vow. He breaks the bow of Vishnu, declaring he will not fight for either side.
The Insult and the Plot
Shakuni immediately reproaches Duryodhana for walking blindly into Krishna’s words. He urges him to proceed with the plan to humiliate Krishna. Together they prepare the collapsing throne meant to make Krishna fall at Duryodhana’s feet.
The Throne Collapses and the Divine Form Appears
Krishna sits calmly on the throne. At Shakuni’s signal, the mechanism collapses and the seat plunges downward. Krishna disappears into darkness and Duryodhana and his allies burst into mocking laughter.
Suddenly the hall fills with blinding radiance. Krishna rises towering above them in His Vishwaroopa. The assembly watches, frozen in awe and terror. Bhishma trembles with devotion, and Drona and Kripa bow with reverence.
Dhritarashtra’s sight returns momentarily and he beholds the cosmic form. When Krishna offers him a boon, he declines softly — after seeing the Lord, he desires nothing more, not even eyesight again.
The Declaration of War
Krishna resumes His human form. Turning to Duryodhana, He warns that the war he craves will annihilate Hastinapura and seal the fate written by arrogance. By refusing peace, Duryodhana allows Draupadi and others to fulfill the vows born from humiliation and grief. Duryodhana remains unmoved, his pride unbroken.
Krishna declares war on Hastinapura on behalf of the Pandavas.
News Reaches Vidura’s House
Back at Vidura’s home, Krishna describes the events of the court — Duryodhana’s insults, the attempt to humiliate Him, the vision of Vishwaroopa, and Vidura’s breaking of the Vishnu Astra. Kunti is relieved, and Vidura feels liberated from the unbearable conflict between loyalty and righteousness.
