Abhimanyu Dies : Episode 149

Recap for Previous Episode :

On the thirteenth day, Susharma draws Arjuna away, enabling Drona to form the deadly Chakravyuha. Abhimanyu enters alone, and the breach closes before the Pandavas can follow. Jayadratha blocks them, while Abhimanyu fights heroically inside. Enraged by the death of Lakshmana, Duryodhana commands the Kaurava warriors to surround and eliminate Abhimanyu by unfair means.

Arjuna’s Ominous Foreboding

Even as the Kauravas launch a collective assault on Abhimanyu, Arjuna — far away battling the Samsaptakas — suddenly feels an unexplained heaviness in his heart. A dark premonition grips him. His bow slips from his hands and he collapses to the seat, overcome by fatigue and dread.

Krishna warns that Susharma will interpret this as cowardice. He urges Arjuna to remain steadfast in dharma and continue the fight. The battle with the Samsaptakas is brutal and endless, and Arjuna forces his mind to concentrate despite the turmoil inside.

Abhimanyu is Surrounded Unfairly

Inside the Chakravyuha, Abhimanyu protests that it violates dharma for so many warriors to attack one man.

Duryodhana retorts bitterly that the first act of adharma was Arjuna’s tactic of using Shikhandi against Bhishma. He sneers that the Kauravas are only responding in kind.

In fierce violation of the code of war, Duryodhana, Dushasana, Karna, Shakuni, Ashwatthama, Drona and Kripacharya attack Abhimanyu simultaneously.

Shakuni kills Abhimanyu’s charioteer

Drona shatters the wheels of the chariot.

Abhimanyu Fights on Foot with Unmatched Courage

With his chariot destroyed, Abhimanyu leaps to the ground, swords blazing in both hands. He faces the circle of enemies without fear. When the swords break away, he picks up a broken wheel of his chariot and whirls it like a blazing chakra.

Like a lion cornered, he hurls himself against Duryodhana, Dushasana, Karna, Shakuni and Ashwatthama. Even surrounded, he refuses to retreat.

The Final Blow

Unable to subdue him, Duryodhana orders Karna to strike from behind. Karna hesitates, reminding him that attacking from the rear is ignoble, but Duryodhana commands without remorse.

Forced by loyalty, Karna strikes Abhimanyu from the back.

Weaponless and bleeding, Abhimanyu requests a weapon to die like a warrior. Duryodhana refuses. Then, in an act of unforgivable cruelty, Duryodhana and Dushasana together pierce him with their swords.

The young hero falls — undefeated in spirit, unconquered in honor.

A Blot on the Conscience of Humanity

The Kaurava warriors surround the dying Abhimanyu and celebrate savagely, dancing around his body in triumph.

It remains an eternal stain on the pages of history.

Pandavas Receive the Tragic News

Outside the vyuha, the Pandavas stand devastated. A storm of grief engulfs them as they struggle to comprehend the loss.

How will they tell Arjuna? What will they say to Subhadra and Uttara?

They send Prativindya, son of Yudhishthira and Draupadi, to deliver the news.

Arjuna’s Return

Finally, Arjuna slays Susharma and collapses exhausted. Krishna drives the chariot toward the camp.

Even the heavens mourn — Indra is shattered. Sage Narada reminds him of his duty: to steel Arjuna for the grief that awaits him.

The Pandavas wait with trembling hearts — for today has claimed more than a warrior.
