155. Ghatotkacha Enters Kurukshetra As War Continues At Night
Recap of Previous Episode :
At sunset on the fourteenth day, the Pandavas prepare to die with Arjuna. Jayadratha emerges prematurely, allowing Arjuna to fulfill his vow. Guided by Krishna, Arjuna kills Jayadratha in a divinely precise way that fulfills the terms of Shiva’s boon. Duryodhana accuses Arjuna of breaking dharma, but Krishna declares the act righteous. In Hastinapur, Dushala and Gandhari are devastated by the news.Dushala’s Grief and the Pandavas’ Condolence
Dushala — the only daughter amidst the hundred Kaurava brothers and the five sons of Pandu — weeps uncontrollably. Her becoming a widow is mourned deeply by all. When Vidura’s wife Sulabha informs Kunti about Jayadratha’s death, Kunti immediately expresses her wish to visit the Kaurava camp. Yudhishtra agrees that they must go and offer condolences, and Krishna supports the decision.
Dushala wishes to see Jayadratha’s face one last time. Duryodhana tries to stop her, but she lifts the shroud anyway. She gasps in shock at the sight of his headless body. More than the death itself, the loss of dignity devastates her. Kunti tries to comfort her, but Dushala is inconsolable.
At that moment, the Pandavas arrive. Overwhelmed, Kunti turns to Arjuna and rebukes him, saying that she is ashamed to call him her son. Krishna steps forward to explain that the manner of Jayadratha’s death was dictated by the boon granted to his father Vridhakshatra.
Dushala cries that she would rather die with her husband. Duryodhana swears vengeance on Arjuna and orders that the battle should continue through the night.
Duryodhana Demands a Night Battle
Drona reflects on the consequences of night warfare, but Duryodhana misreads his silence and explodes in anger. He accuses Drona of partiality and even suggests that he should resign if he lacks the will to fight. Disgusted, Dhrishtadyumna chastises Duryodhana for his disrespect.
Drona replies calmly that emotional decisions are dangerous and his intuition warns that a night battle may end disastrously. Still, he declares his readiness to fight.
Ghatotkacha Enters the Battlefield
Krishna suggests summoning Ghatotkacha, the Rakshasa son of Bhima. Instantly, Ghatotkacha appears, towering and fierce. Bhima blesses him and requests his support. The Kaurava warriors tremble in terror at the sight of his massive frame and thunderous steps and begin to scatter in fear as Ghatotkacha storms into the battlefield.
