Satyaki Confronts Bhurisravas

The fourteenth day of Kurukshetra surges on with terrifying intensity. Following Yudhishtra’s command, Satyaki races forward along the trail Arjuna has taken in pursuit of Jayadratha. Before he can advance, Bhurisravas, prince of Bahlika and son of Somadatta, blocks his path and challenges him.

The duel ignites fiercely. Bhurisravas overwhelms Satyaki, shattering his bows and striking him down unconscious on the blood-soaked earth. Satyaki lies helpless, weaponless, and unaware.

Arjuna Intervenes

Watching from a distance, Krishna urges Arjuna to protect his friend. Arjuna hesitates — the warrior code forbids interference in another duel unless invited. But Krishna’s voice is steady:

“Rules exist to protect dharma, Arjuna. When rules are twisted to destroy the innocent, following them is adharma.”

Bhurisravas raises his sword to strike the defenceless Satyaki. In that instant, Arjuna shoots a single arrow that severs Bhurisravas’ arm, stopping the fatal blow.

Furious, Bhurisravas brands Arjuna’s act adharmic, throws aside his weapons, and sits in meditation, resolving to abandon a war where codes are broken.

Satyaki regains consciousness. Seeing the man who nearly killed him seated unarmed, he leaps up and beheads Bhurisravas.

Arjuna is shaken to the core and lifts his Gandiva to punish Satyaki — but Krishna stops him. Krishna speaks calmly, reminding Arjuna that dharma is not merely a list of rules:

“Bhurisravas broke the laws of honor the moment he raised his sword against an unconscious warrior — just as he stood silently when Abhimanyu was murdered. When the oppressor breaks the rules, the defender is not bound by those same broken rules. Protecting the helpless is a higher dharma than preserving technicalities.”

Arjuna lowers his bow and moves forward once again toward Jayadratha.

Bhima Battles Drona’s Forces

Drona presses hard toward Yudhishtra, hoping to fulfil his vow of capturing him. Bhima charges in, declaring that he has already slain many of Dhritarashtra’s sons. He challenges Drona directly.

With a furious strike, Bhima smashes Drona’s chariot, sending the teacher tumbling. Bhima spares his life — and Drona withdraws.

Bhima continues to mow down the Kaurava brothers. Enraged, Duryodhana sends Karna. Karna pierces Bhima with relentless arrows, but remembers his vow to Kunti and spares him.

Arjuna Breaks Through

Arjuna defeats Ashwatthama and Kripacharya and finally reaches the inner layers of the vyuha. The sun is sinking. Shakuni rushes Jayadratha into a cave, ordering him not to emerge until sunset — when Arjuna must immolate himself if he fails.

Warriors from both armies gather anxiously, watching the horizon.
Each breath hangs heavy.
The moment of destiny approaches.

Central Teaching

Dharma protects the helpless.
When cruelty hides behind rules, breaking those rules becomes righteousness.
