Duryodhana is mistaken in assuming that simply ascending the throne is enough to make one happy, but Dhritarashtra, being more experienced, believes in waiting for more time and assure everybody's approval for lasting happiness. Therein lay the difference between Duryodhana and Dhritarashtra. Shakuni seizes the opportunity to tell Duryodhana that he has forgotten his uncle, whose help he utilized in driving the Pandavas out of his path. : From now on, your nephew will not even breathe without telling you!
Shakuni
: You are his friend. Teach him only good things.Shakuni goes out leaving Karna perplexed.

The news of Bakasura's death reaches the ruler of Ekachakrapura. The king offers Pandavas gold and precious stones and offers them government job. Pandavas are stupefied, and Kunti says she would have to decline the king's kind offer. The king is surprised and remarks that they must have come from a royal family as is obvious from their appearance and behavior.
Suddenly one of the onlooker remarks that they look like the Pancha Pandavas or the five Panadavas. The king also feels the same way and he asks them pointedly who they are.
Sage Vyasa comes at this opportune moment and tells them that all of them are his disciples. He tells the king that he had sent them to Ekachakrapura to rid them of the tyrant rakshasa. He tells the Pandavas that their mission was well accomplished.

He calls Dhrishtadyumna by his name, and Dhrishtadyumna is amazed. Drona asks him where his father and his friend Drupada was. Drona who was watching the proceedings from a nearby bush comes close. Drona asked why he didn't ask him directly, and Drupada admits he felt ashamed of the past incidents. Drona gracefully says he forgot them the minute he won and returned part of Panchala back to him and accepted him as his friend.

: Yet I sought retribution and by performing penances, obtained a son who could do this for me.

: Seeking retribution and taking revenge are the qualities of a kshatriya.
Drupada
: Kindly bless my son and accept him as your disciple.

: I have to sharpen the sword that was obtained solely for killing me. That's fate's game! Who am I to stop or obstruct it? And how can I refuse when my dearest friend asks me for help?Drupada thanks Drona and entrusts Drishtadyumna with him.
