The Pandavas then bow to Drupada and his wife and to Kunti. They express their happiness over the marriage. Kunti blesses them. She tells Draupadi that She should be like what Indrani was to Indra, as Swaha was to Agni, as Rohini to Chandra, as Damayanti to Nala, as Bhadra Devi to Kubera, as Arundati to Sage Vasishtha and as Mahalakshmi to Narayana. She should always offer food and shelter to children and to the old and the needy. She should take care of the kingdom her husbands earn. She should live long and enjoy life to the fullest and have children.
Dushshasana leaves the marriage venue. Vyasa too takes leave from the assembled people and departs.
Scene 2
Dushasana comes from Panchala when Duryodhana and Karna are speaking to Shakuni. Shakuni, who had earlier told Duryodhana that Dushasana had gone to bring fruits for him, tells Dushshasana what had happened at Panchala. Dushasana confirms that Draupadi was indeed won by Arjuna, and Draupadi has now got married to all the Pandavas.
Scene 3
Bhishma receives the message of Kauravas' defeat. He is now worried how Dritarashtra would take it. So he tells the messenger to go tell Vidura and he says he would convey the message to Dritarashtra.
Vidura gets the message and immediately sets out to meet Dritarashtra so that he could reach there before Bhishma. But before he could reach there, Bhishma has already conveyed the message of Kauravas' defeat to him. Dritarashtra clutches his chest, unable to handle Kauravas' defeat at Panchala. Vidura reaches just then and tells him that Kauravas have won at Panchala. Dritarashtra says Bheeshma had just told him that Kauravas had lost. Vidura comforts his brother saying there was a commotion at Panchala and so news from there have become garbled.
Scene 4
Duryodhana is unable to sleep. He comes out of the tent and starts shouting that he would not eat or rest until he takes revenge. Shakuni says such uncontrolled anger and emotions would take him further towards defeat. Duryodhana says they should declare war on Panchala. They could send a message to Dritarashtra to send troops. But Shakuni doesn't agree. He says that as long as Bheeshma and Vidura live at Hastinapur, such a move cannot take place. In fact, they would tell Dritarashtra to welcome the Pandavas with 'aarti'.
Dushshasana says how they would ever return to Hastinapur. Even a child there would ridicule or taunt them over their defeat.
