Kunti is surprised when Vidura says he would find on the side of Kauravas in case of war. When asked the reason, Vidura says he had promised Pandu that he would never desert Dritarashtra despite his shortcomings and would always fight for him.
The next day, Krishna spells out the reason for his visit and asks that the Pandavas be returned their kingdom. Duryodhana is highly disrespectful of Krishna and is in no mood for any reconciliation. He refuses to give the Pandavas even the five houses that Krishna asks for, saying he wouldn't part with even a needle-sized land. Krishna asks others in the court to advise Duryodhana. As Vidura speaks out in favor of peaceful settlement, Duryodhana lashes out angrily at him for offering to host Krishna despite his being on the payrolls of the king and receiving salary as alms and calls him the son of a dasi. As Vidura writhes in agony, Krishna slyly remarks to Duryodhana why he acted tactlessly, especially when a powerful warrior like Vidura, who had sworn allegiance to Hastinapura, had a powerful weapon such as Vishnu astra with which he could wipe out the enemy. Duryodhana had disrespected his venerable uncle and Krishna asks him pointedly which self respecting man would tolerate an insult to his mother?
Vidura is quick to react. He thanks Krishna for guiding him at an appropriate moment and absolves himself of every personal compunction to follow the promise given by him to Pandu. He swears not to fight in the war and breaks the Bow of Vishnu, which now had no use for him.
Shakuni admonishes Duryodhana for not being careful in dealing with the wily Krishna and for falling willingly into his net. The two then decide to humiliate Krishna just as they had planned the previous day.
Krishna sits on his throne and Shakuni bangs on his throne such that the throne on which Krishna is seated plunges deep down, hurtling Krishna into the abyss. As everyone watches horrified and dumb struck, Duryodhana and his cronies guffaw. All of a sudden, a blinding light engulfs the court and Krishna appears towering over in the assembly.
Bhishma is rapturous and so are Drona and Krupa. Dritarashtra's eyes light up for sometime and he is enthralled by the Lord's Vishwaroopa. Later when Krishna offers him a boon, Dritarashtra refuses it, saying after having the vision of the Lord, he desired nothing else, not even the sight.Krishna gets into his normal form. Once again he warns Duryodhana that the war would bring total destruction to Hastinapura and declares that he is unwittingly allowing Draupadi and others to fulfil their oaths. As Duryodhana remains unyielding, Krishna declares war on Hastinapura on behalf of the Pandavas.
Back in Vidura's house, Krishna appraises Kunti of the proceeding at the court and the breaking of Vishnu astra by Vidura. Kunti is happy and Vidura too is happy that his dilemma about having to fight against the Pandavas is now over.
