Duryodhana Tries to Deceive Kunti
Duryodhana Tries to Deceive Kunti
As previously plotted with Shakuni, Duryodhana visits Kunti and falls at her feet, pretending remorse. He claims that he wishes to return the kingdom to the Pandavas and begs her to reveal where they are staying. Kunti replies honestly that she does not know their location and urges him to wait until they return after one year of Ajnatavasa.
Duryodhana insists that she should trust him, and at that moment Vidura arrives. Appearing to support Duryodhana, Vidura remarks that he trusts him completely and tells him that the Pandavas are in Maya Desha. Duryodhana bursts out laughing and reveals his real plan — to send the Pandavas into another twelve-year exile once they are located. Vidura then tells him plainly that Maya Desha does not exist, and he never trusted Duryodhana at all.
Humiliated and furious, Duryodhana storms away.
Kanaka is Murdered
Vidura is anxious about the Kauravas’ desperate attempts to discover the whereabouts of the Pandavas. He summons minister Kanaka, who once helped the Pandavas escape from the burning lac palace, and asks him to stay loyal. Kanaka assures Vidura that he would rather sacrifice his life than reveal Pandavas’ location.
Soon after, Kanaka is cornered by Shakuni, Dushasana, and Duryodhana. When Kanaka refuses to speak and rebukes Duryodhana’s crooked intentions, Duryodhana kills him in uncontrollable rage. While searching his belongings, Duryodhana finds a coin from Virata’s kingdom and concludes that the Pandavas must be hiding there.
Krishna and Bhama Reach Indraloka
In Indraloka, Narada asks Indra what he plans to do about Narakasura, who continues tormenting devas. Indra admits he feels helpless without Krishna’s support on earth. At that moment Krishna arrives with Bhama.
Bhama demands the Parijata tree, and Indra promises to give it to her if Krishna helps him defeat Narakasura and release the imprisoned devas. Krishna agrees but warns Indra that a promise must never be broken, especially after victory.
Keechaka Harasses Sairandhri
Back in Virata’s palace, Keechaka is consumed by desire for Sairandhri (Draupadi). He drinks heavily, refuses to attend court, and openly flaunts his authority. Drunk with power and arrogance, he enters Queen Sudeshna’s private chambers and behaves outrageously.
Sudeshna is terrified — Keechaka is now so influential that he threatens to overthrow King Virata and seize the throne. Helpless, she cannot protect Sairandhri.
Draupadi flees to Uttara’s chamber, where Brihannala (Arjuna) is teaching the young prince dance. Bound by the vow of concealment, Arjuna remains silent. Any reaction would expose the Pandavas’ identity and break their Ajnatavasa.
Desperate and trembling, Draupadi runs to King Virata’s court, pleading for justice and protection, while Kanka (Yudhishtra) watches in silent anguish, unable to intervene.
